About Elite Endurance Nutrition

Hi, I am Gary

I am a Registered Dietitian with a specialist interest in endurance nutrition and gut health. I am a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) and registered with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Through my clinical work in the NHS, experience as an ultra runner, and completion of the UESCA Endurance Sports Nutrition Certification, I have seen how often athletes are held back, not by their training, but by their nutrition.

Too many runners are dealing with:

  • Energy crashes
  • Ongoing gut issues
  • Confusion around how to fuel properly
  • Poor recovery

 That’s where I come in.

Where performance nutrition meets gut health

Alongside my work in endurance nutrition, I have experience as a specialist gastroenterology dietitian. Including training in approaches such as low FODMAP.

This is a key part of what sets my approach apart:

Gut issues are extremely common in endurance sport, but often poorly managed or oversimplified. I take a structured, evidence-based approach to:

  • Improving gut tolerance
  • Identifying and managing triggers
  • Supporting athletes to fuel effectively without symptoms.
This allows you to not only fuel properly, but actually tolerate the fuel your body needs to perform.

You can’t outperform poor fuel

A simple way to think about it:
You can train your body to be like a Ferrari. Fast, efficient, and built for performance.
But if you:

  • Put in the wrong fuel
  • Don’t use enough fuel
  • Or, your system can’t tolerate that fuel
…it won’t perform the way it should.

That is exactly what I see with many endurance athletes. They’re doing the training, the long days, the short and fast sessions, but their nutrition is limiting their potential.
My role is to make sure your body has the right fuel, in the right amounts, and can actually use it effectively, especially when it matters most.

Combining clinical expertise with real-world experience
I’ve spent several years working as a dietitian across a range of clinical areas in acute and community NHS settings. Supporting patients with complex clinical nutrition needs and developing evidence-based nutrition approaches to their care.

Alongside this, I’ve developed a strong interest in endurance performance, both professionally and personally.
As an ultrarunner myself, I understand the realities of:
  • The demand of long training cycles
  • The reality of race-day pressures
  • The frustration of trial and error of fuelling strategies
  • The struggle of being unable to take any fuel due to stomach issues
This combination of clinical expertise and lived experience allows me to provide practical, realistic support that works in the real world, not just on paper.

Why Elite Endurance Nutrition exists

Elite Endurance Nutrition was created to bridge the gap between science and real-world performance. There is a lot of nutrition advice online which is:
  • Genetic
  • Conflicting
  • Not designed for specific demands such as ultra races
My goal is to give athletes clarity. To provide structured, evidence-based strategies that actually work in training and on race day.

A practical, evidence-based approach

Everything I do is built on three key principles:

Evidence based
Your nutrition strategy is grounded in clinical practice and current research, not trends or fads.

Personalised
No generic plans. Everything is tailored to your specific training, lifestyle, physiology, and goals.

Practical
It has to work in the real world, during long runs, race conditions, and busy schedules.

How I can help athletes improve performance

I support endurance athletes to:
  • Fuel properly for training and racing
  • Improve fuel tolerance and gut function
  • Reduce/eliminate GI symptoms
  • Build confidence in race-day nutrition
  • Recover effectively and train consistently
Whether you are preparing for your first ultra or aiming to perform at your best, the focus is always the same: helping you fuel effectively and consistently.
